Promoting healthy GI function and overall digestive health by supporting the microbiome and maintaining intestinal lining integrity has always been a key element of clinical strategies addressing comprehensive case management. In this presentation, Dr. Spooner will introduce the concept of Functional GI Ecology, a broader-scale comparison of key interactions of the microbiome and functional adaptations of human anatomy and physiology for optimal patient care.

Attendees will learn:
  • Why microbial balance, candida overgrowth and overgrowth of unfavourable bacteria need to be considered within the larger context of GI and hepatic function
  • The systemic toxemia hypothesis connection to the microbiome and its impacts on health
  • Consequences of disordered digestive function of the microbiome and the endothelial lining of the gut
  • Detailed information on the interaction of the microbiome with the immune system
  • The role of the hepatobiliary system in GI ecology
